Diving Cruise Indonesia: UHNW Premium Phinisi Expeditions

A superior diving cruise Indonesia experience awaits. Imagine the quiet glide of a handcrafted phinisi across the Banda Sea’s turquoise expanse, the scent of clove on the morning air. This is not a vacation; it is a private, curated exploration of the planet’s most vital marine ecosystems. Here, time is measured in tides and discovery, far from the charted course. For the discerning few, we present expeditions into the heart of the Coral Triangle, defined by absolute privacy and unparalleled access.
An Invitation to the World’s Epicenter of Marine Biodiversity
Diving Cruise Indonesia Premium offers more than a luxury liveaboard; we provide a platform for profound discovery within the Indonesian archipelago. Our expeditions are conceived for private groups, families, and marine conservation patrons who demand discretion, exclusivity, and access to the most remote and biologically significant waters on Earth. Indonesia sits at the apex of the Coral Triangle, an area hosting 76% of the world’s known coral species and more than 3,000 species of fish. Our mission is to present this vibrant realm in a manner that is both deeply personal and respectful of its fragility. See also: Komodo Dive Cruise Premium pricing.
Onboard our fleet of traditional phinisi schooners, the experience is tailored to each guest. With a dedicated crew-to-guest ratio that often exceeds 1:1, every detail is anticipated. From the divemaster who recalls your preferred tank pressure to the chef who sources local organic produce for a specific dietary request, our service is intuitive and invisible. This is the definitive premium diving liveaboard Indonesia experience, where the vessel itself is a destination and the ocean is your private sanctuary. We navigate away from crowded dive sites, utilizing our extensive local knowledge to time our arrivals for solitary encounters with the ocean’s most compelling creatures. Our focus is not on volume, but on the quality and singularity of each moment, both above and below the waterline.
The Discerning Diver: Expeditions for Private Exploration
Our clients are experienced divers, ocean advocates, and global explorers who value time and privacy above all. They are individuals and families seeking a legacy experience—a shared adventure that connects them to the natural world in its most potent form. A UHNW dive cruise with us is a departure from the conventional. We cater exclusively to full-charter private groups of up to 12 guests, ensuring that the rhythm of the expedition is yours alone to set. Whether the objective is serious underwater photography, marine research, or simply introducing a new generation to the wonders of the ocean, we configure the vessel, crew, and itinerary to your precise mandate.
The onboard environment is an extension of this philosophy. Suites are appointed with fine linens and amenities, offering private sanctuaries of calm. The culinary program is directed by chefs trained in international fine dining, capable of crafting multi-course tasting menus, classic French cuisine, or authentic Indonesian feasts. The cellar is stocked with a curated selection of Old and New World wines. Beyond diving, the experience is enriched by:
- A dedicated spa therapist for onboard treatments.
- State-of-the-art Scubapro diving equipment and complimentary Nitrox for certified divers.
- A climate-controlled camera room with individual stations, multiple 220V and 110V charging points, and compressed air for cleaning.
- A fleet of tenders for exploring hidden lagoons, deserted beaches, and local villages.
- Water sports equipment, including sea kayaks and paddleboards, for surface-level exploration.
This is a holistic maritime expedition, designed to engage the senses and intellect in equal measure. Every element is considered, allowing you to focus purely on the experience of discovery. See also: Raja Ampat Dive Cruise.
The Phinisi: A Confluence of Heritage and Naval Engineering
The soul of our phinisi diving expedition is the vessel itself. Each ship in our fleet is a two-masted Indonesian schooner, a living testament to a shipbuilding tradition recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. These vessels are not factory-built yachts; they are handcrafted over years by the Konjo shipwrights of South Sulawesi, a people whose maritime legacy stretches back centuries. The hulls are constructed from Ulin, a native ironwood so dense it sinks in water, while the superstructures are fashioned from aged teak.
This ancient form is married to the highest standards of modern naval technology and safety. Beneath the traditional lines lies a sophisticated machine. Our flagship, the Samudra Juara, is equipped with twin marine engines, silent-run generators, and watermakers capable of producing 10,000 liters of fresh water daily. Navigation and communication systems are state-of-the-art, featuring Simrad radar and sonar suites and Inmarsat satellite connectivity for essential communications. Safety is paramount, with full adherence to SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) conventions, an onboard AED, extensive medical kits, and a crew trained in emergency response. The result is a vessel that offers the romance of classic sail with the reliability and comfort of a modern superyacht.
Signature Itineraries: Navigating the Indonesian Archipelago
Our expeditions cover the most coveted and ecologically diverse regions of Indonesia. Each itinerary is a carefully constructed narrative, designed to showcase the unique character of its destination during the optimal season. We offer four principal regions of exploration, each available for private charter. See also: Banda Sea Dive Cruise.
Raja Ampat: The Four Kings’ Domain
Located off the northwest tip of Bird’s Head Peninsula in West Papua, Raja Ampat is widely considered the global epicenter of marine life. Its 1,500 jungle-covered islands are surrounded by waters that support more than 1,600 species of fish and 600 species of hard coral. A Raja Ampat dive cruise with us focuses on the region’s staggering biodiversity. The optimal season runs from October to April, when the seas are calm and visibility is at its peak. We guide guests to iconic sites like Cape Kri, where Dr. Gerald R. Allen documented a world-record 374 fish species on a single dive, as well as secret spots known only to our most experienced guides. An 11-night private charter through Raja Ampat starts at USD 95,000.
Komodo National Park: A Realm of Dragons and Currents
A UNESCO World Heritage site, Komodo is a land of stark, volcanic beauty and powerful marine currents. These currents, born from the convergence of the Indian and Pacific Oceans, fuel an explosion of life. Diving here is dynamic and rewarding, with encounters with manta rays, sharks, and massive schools of fish. The season runs from April to November. Our expeditions balance thrilling drift dives at sites like Batu Bolong and Castle Rock with surface intervals that include trekking on Rinca or Komodo Island to observe the formidable Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis) in its natural habitat. An 8-night expedition offers a concentrated dose of this primal world.
The Banda Sea: A Passage Through the Spice Islands
This is an expedition for the true pelagic enthusiast. The Banda Sea is a deep, vast basin whose remote volcanic islands were once the global center of the nutmeg and clove trade in the 17th century under the Dutch VOC. Today, these “Spice Islands” are a critical migration route for marine megafauna. During the prime season of September through November, our Banda Sea crossings offer a high probability of encountering schooling scalloped hammerhead sharks. We dive on pristine atolls and along volcanic slopes, including the sea snake congregation at Gunung Api. This is a true adventure into history and the deep blue. See also: book Contact.
The Forgotten Islands: The Frontier of Exploration
For the ultimate in remote exploration, we offer expeditions to the “Forgotten Islands” of Southeast Maluku. Stretching in a 1,000-kilometer arc from Timor to West Papua, this is Indonesia’s final frontier of diving. The reefs here are exceptionally pristine, having seen minimal human impact. These long-range, 12-night itineraries, often traveling one-way from Saumlaki to Ambon, are true voyages of discovery. Divers can expect vibrant walls, massive sea fans, and a high likelihood of encounters with large pelagic species. Due to the logistical complexity, a 12-night private charter in the Forgotten Islands starts at USD 110,000.

Our Commitment: Beyond Bespoke Service
Trust is the foundation of any ultra-premium experience. At Diving Cruise Indonesia Premium, that trust is earned through an unwavering commitment to operational excellence, safety, and expertise. Our expeditions are led by a Western Cruise Director with a minimum of 15 years’ experience navigating and diving Indonesian waters. They are not merely hosts; they are expedition leaders, marine naturalists, and logistical experts who ensure the seamless execution of your journey.
Our PADI-certified dive guides are chosen for their deep local knowledge and their dedication to safety and conservation. We maintain a strict maximum guest-to-guide ratio of 4:1, ensuring personalized attention on every dive. Our safety protocols are rigorous and uncompromising. Each vessel is equipped with emergency oxygen, an AED, and comprehensive first-aid supplies. We maintain a standing partnership with the Divers Alert Network (DAN) for shoreside medical support and evacuation logistics. Furthermore, we believe that access to these pristine environments carries a responsibility for their preservation. We formalize this by contributing 2% of our charter profits to our conservation partner, the Raja Ampat Research and Conservation Centre, supporting their work in marine protection and community empowerment.

Frequently Addressed Inquiries
We believe in complete transparency. While a comprehensive list of questions can be found on our dedicated FAQ page, here are a few key points for your initial consideration.
What level of diving certification is required?
For the majority of our itineraries, particularly in Komodo and the Banda Sea, we recommend a minimum certification of PADI Advanced Open Water or an equivalent, with at least 50 logged dives. This is to ensure comfort and safety in conditions that may include strong currents and deeper dive profiles. We can, of course, tailor itineraries for less experienced groups or those wishing to complete certifications onboard.
Can non-divers be accommodated?
Absolutely. Our expeditions are designed to be holistic experiences. Non-divers will find a wealth of activities, including guided snorkeling on shallow reefs, kayaking through mangrove forests, paddleboarding in calm bays, trekking to scenic viewpoints, and enjoying private beach setups with full service. Cultural visits to remote villages can also be a rewarding part of the journey.
What are the primary inclusions and exclusions?
Our private charter rates are largely inclusive. This covers exclusive use of the vessel and its tenders, the full crew including a private chef and dive guides, all meals and snacks, a selection of soft drinks, juices, local beer, and a curated list of wines and spirits. All diving, tank fills (including Nitrox), and standard dive equipment are also included. The primary exclusions are international and domestic flights, marine park and port fees (e.g., the Raja Ampat Marine Park fee is IDR 1,000,000 per person, subject to change), satellite internet packages, and crew gratuity, which is at the charterer’s discretion.
